Atlanta Hawks interested in signing Greg Monroe

The Atlanta Hawks really weren’t supposed to do much this season but they ended up nearly eliminating that No. 1 seeded Indiana Pacers in the first-round of the postseason. While that may have had more to do with how badly the Pacers are playing at the moment, the Hawks now have grand plans for the future as they’ve seen how well their team can win at times the way it’s constructed.
Still, they need more pieces and one of those pieces could be restricted Detroit Pistons free agent Greg Monroe.
Per Marc Stein:

There have been some recent rumbles on the personnel grapevine that the Hawks will lob themselves into the bidding for Detroit Pistons restricted free agent Greg Monroe.
The close ties between Monroe’s agent, David Falk, and Falk’s former star client Ferry make such rumbles inevitable.
Monroe was reportedly drawing interest at the trade deadline but the Pistons refused to trade him. Now they’re in a situation where a team like the Hawks can come along and offer him an insane amount of money, thus stealing him away from Detroit if they’re unwilling to match.
Atlanta won’t be the only team in on Monroe this offseason, but they’re an interesting landing spot and he may help put them over the top in 2014-15.

Well, fairly certain we are going to match whatever anyone throws at us. I suppose a S&T is possible though. But why the hell would the Hawks of all teams want him? Horford and Millsap are both all-stars lol.

Milsap's contract is up after next year. Could fetch them something this off-season if they aren't comfortable giving him a truck load of money and then have Monroe long term.

Monroe and Horford seem kind of redundant.

I'm not arguing how they'd fit. I'm just saying Ferry might not be comfortable giving Millsp a big money, long term deal. Only gave the guy two years this off-season. He might find it more valuable to trade him at the peak of his value, get an asset back, and then replace him with a capable big in Monroe. I don't think it's all that crazy of an idea, but Millsap is definitely better.
