God, chase utley has been a dream dodger of mine for years. This is awesome

What a supporting cast.2 or possibly 3 of Ethier, crawford, utley, kendrick as a pinch hitter pretty much every game. Yes

Ah but yes, no bullpen
Latos is already in the bullpen

Sigh
Doesn't Utley suck now?

Mets are planning on skipping Harvey and Syndegaard so they dont reach their innings limits and can pitch at the end of September. Steven Matz is planned to come back September 1st so that will help alleviate that problem and set up for a 6 man rotation once again.

David Wright is close to coming back, hopefully by the beginning of next week.

They both pitch worse with the extra day off. THrows off their rhythm.

I say give Harvey the occasional day skip or extra day's rest, and when on road trips move Syndergaard to the bullpen. He's got a high 90s fastball, struggles on the road already - so you limit his innings by bringing him out of the pen as your 7th inning guy. And you fix your bullpen. Problem solved. Harvey has to stay in the rotation because he's better than Syndergaard and moving him to the pen for a few weeks could throw off his rhythm REAL bad heading in to the playoffs - and he's probably mre valuable to us in a playoff run than Syndergaard.

I shutter to think what he could do with a team that is willing to spend any kind of money. I'm surprised he has stayed here as long as he has.

Although I will say that our drafting under his watch has been fairly subpar.

It can be when you can trade supbar major leaguers for other team's good prospects.

Which is why it wasn't as big a deal as it normally would be.

Shapiro also hired Jonah Hill before Brad Pitt poached him in moneyball, which started it all. Basically he changed baseball forever #NeverForget

I mean, I guess if we're using rings as the sole barometer for success, but that's insanely idiotic

To be fair though they've won ONE playoff series in that time

The point is they have been able to maintain relatively decent success consistently with one of the cheapest owners in the sport. They've never really bottomed out either, so there success after rebuilding wasn't quite like you're seeing with the Astros, Twins and Royals who were picking at the top of the draft every year.

Pretty much everyone operates in a new school thinking now anyway.

And all three of those teams you named are in much better spots than the athletics are now

The Athletics suck and are overrated, and you just need to accept that.
