Vikings owner Zygi Wilf reportedly met Tuesday with LA Live!'s Tim Leiweke and the AEG team that is considering an NFL stadium in Los Angeles.
Due to an unresolved $5 billion budget deficit, the final $300 million in state contribution for an Arden Hills Vikings stadium has been held up in the Minnesota state legislature. Wilf's franchise is essentially a free agent after the 2011 season, and it looks like he's at least willing to listen to the AEG team in case a deal can't be reached on a new stadium in Minnesota.

Simply put, a team in Los Angeles is a near impossibility in the forseeable future. There is no political leadership calling for a stadium, no financing plan to build one, and no location to put one in. And most importantly, given the economic condition of the city, no one is willing to touch this issue with a ten foot pole.

Minnesota, your team is safe.

You are right, the city, under AEG's proposal, would not have to kick in one penny for the stadium. This, however, is a ''bold'' promise that many are skeptical about and the odds are very likely that they would have to ask for funds at a later stage.

But its more complicated then that, as you surely know. Even if you were to grant them their ability to self finance, however, there are other costs that would turn off the city to the idea. Just as an example, for them to build stadiums and all the way they want it, a part of the LA Convention Center needs to be removed. That's where city bonds and taxes come in -something AEG has already asked for- to get old development cleared out of the way. This is an expensive process that no political leader yet has stood behind.

You also have to take account of the inevitable road situation which no one considers now, but I'm sure will eventually come up. Who's going to pay for all the necessary roadwork so that people can access these lovely new parking lots, especially in traffic heavy LA? What about the environmental impact studies, entitlement process, and lease that the city would have to finance? You have to be very careful with these guys saying, "Oh! We won't spend any public money on the stadium..." Politicians here understand this, hence why were not rooting for the Los Angeles Zephyrs today and why it doesn't look like we will in the near future.

You know they've been pushing for a team in LA for awhile now and they need a new stadium. It would make sense, especially if they had the financial part of it out of the way.

That is an image of the City of Industry stadium proposal, which is unrelated to the subject of the article. It is rumored to lag far behind AEG's model in terms of NFL and local political support because the proposed location is actually nowhere near Downtown Los Angeles; frankly, a prime example of expensive suburban sprawl. Outside of environmental studies, no real significant news has resulted from the project and I personally doubt will in the future.

AEG's plan makes sense simply because and the firm already finances a successful building (Staples Center) and it would be built in an area where sports complexes and entertainment facilities are already successful. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, it is a financial and political impossibility made less feasible in a harsh economic climate unless the NFL is willing to invest significant money. Coming out of a lockout, I doubt they are willing, and recent developments appear to support that:

Eh wouldn't really be a good idea, might be a back hand to Minnesota natives which would lead them to just saying "Fine, move the team then" by calling his bluff.
