As per Rosenthals tweet

Serrano reports that Martinez's deal with Tigers will be for four years, $50 million, and that team outbid #RedSox, #WhiteSox, #Orioles
That's a lot for a guy who will likely just DH in about 2 years.

I knew he would be going to the Tigers, theyve got money to spend and they are willing to spend it on a decent but old catcher. I wouldnt pay a catcher who is that old that much, youth is where its at when it comes to the catcher position.

Tigers are going to be goooooooooooooood this coming year.
As long as they don't fall off after All-Star Break, again.

I'm liking these deals. I mean, it is a bit much, but they have the money to spend, and are going to continue to be aggressive in getting who they need to improve the team.

This is full of LOL's.

V-Mart is a glorified 1B/DH who is almost Jorge Posada like behind the plate.

4 years is too much but it's a solid pick up for what they need.. He puts up great numbers if he's at the catching position, like I've said before, if you put him at first base he's just a good first baseman for offense, but at catcher he's great. Great clubhouse guy as well.

He won't be catching for us. At least not every night. He is going to be our full time DH, and backup Miggy at 1st and Avila at catcher. For some reason, they want Avila as our starting catcher. I know its a lot of money, but like you guys said, we have a <Censored> ton of money and were going after what we desperately need. Needless to say, we still have close to $30 million or so to spend. Now we need to go after an outfielder and starting pitcher.

Fuck Avila. I'd much rather have Martinez at catcher.

Now we need to get Dunn and maybe trade for a starter.
And bring back Magglio.

With this signing, we don't need Dunn. Because Dumbrowski and Avila's dad are committed to Alex starting at catcher. Which means V-Mart will get a majority of his time at DH, where Dunn would play. And rather than sign Dunn and play him in the outfield like he can even though hes not good at it, I'd rather get a true outfielder in Werth or Crawford. Thats what we need to do next, sign one of those two, then either sign or trade for a pitcher. If we do that, we will be a real legit team. Or, even trade Avila for something or another. Such as a pitcher. BTW, what happened to Boesch? Was his fame short lived?

Boesch was a <Censored>ty player who had one hot streak and then went back to sucking like he normally does.

Yeah. I don't see us going for Dunn now either. They wanted either Martinez or Dunn, because both would be the DH, and now they got Martinez, who was more like a just in case they couldn't get Dunn option, but still filling a need. I really hope we get Crawford, but if we don't, Werth is a good option too. Just need to keep filling those needs so we can actually compete, for the entire season.

Not a good pickup I think by year 3 he will significantly digress. Then they will have to move him to DH or 1st Base.

Plus his splits weren't even that great last year. Boston is smart for not outbidding the Tigers. They get the tigers 19th overall pick, a sandwich pick and a pick before the 2nd round. We all know how good Red Sox are when it comes to developing player.

Yeah, and in his rookie season he had 2 good months, May and June. He hit .163 post All-Star break. He's horrible.
