After making the playoffs after taking a year off, the Heat may find themselves at a bit of a crossroads. There's the possibility they lose their front court with Whiteside possibly taking his talents elsewhere and Bosh's uncertain medical future. DWade will be a year older.

Where do they go from here?

Need to hit it big in free agency or get back into the lottery.

They can't really go anywhere this summer. The goal is gonna be to retain Hassan, which is gonna eat up about half of the cap space. Then you have about 20 mil left to throw at Wade, Deng, and JJ.
Joe likes Miami, he could possibly be retained for the minimum. Then you gotta strike some deals with Wade to take a discounted one year deal and give him one last big ass contract next summer when the cap rises again.
Deng might leave for one big last pay day.

If Hassan chooses to go somewhere else because the Heat aren't willing to give him a max, and Bosh retires as well, they will be major players in the 2017 FAcy. Bosh's contract would come off the books in February.

Next season is gonna be pretty much middle of the road again, low playoff seed.

If they lose Whiteside, they won't be a playoff team.

Which I'd be fine with but they would have the money to get a replacement. Jefferson or whoever the fuck. At least someone better than Amare and Haslem.

Here's my question: Why give Wade another huge deal next summer?

He is old and not the same player. Don't commit huge money to a dinosaur.

because its the popular thing to do now to a loyal player. if he was real loyal hed take a cut to help the team.

Paying guys for what they've done previously, rather than what they will do in the future is how the NBA works.

It's not a smart financial move but it helps to keep the organization's image afloat. Potential free agents see how tge teams treat their players.
Plus Wade has given up a lot of money in years past.

According to Riley, signing Whiteside is priority #1.

Wade isn't going anywhere

Yeah, but don't overpay Wade. Ask him to be a part of the future by not handicapping their future. If he wants more than he's worth, let him walk

That's how it should run, but the NBA is a very backwards league in terms of paying guys lol.
