Haha, so strange. Considering we play them tonight. The Detroit Tigers today acquired outfielder Delmon Young from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for left-handed pitcher Cole Nelson and a player to be named later.
Young is the younger brother of former Tiger Dmitri Young. And he won't have far to go to join his new team -- the Twins play the Tigers tonight at Comerica Park.
Young hit .266 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 32 RBIs in 84 games with the Twins this season. Last year, he hit .298 with 46 doubles, 21 home runs and 112 RBIs.
Selected by the Tampa Bay Rays with the first overall pick in the 2003 MLB draft, Young is hitting .289 with 63 home runs and 376 RBIs in 689 games in the majors with Tampa Bay (2006-07) and Minnesota (2008-11).
A roster move to free up space for Young on the 25-man roster will be announced prior to tonight’s game, the team said.
Nelson pitched in 26 games (17 starts) with Class A Lakeland this season, posting a 5-11 record, 4.87 ERA and 87 strikeouts.
Dude should hit better in our lineup. I certainly like the deal lol. Just wonder where he fits.
