The Detroit Tigers today acquired outfielder Delmon Young from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for left-handed pitcher Cole Nelson and a player to be named later.

Young is the younger brother of former Tiger Dmitri Young. And he won't have far to go to join his new team -- the Twins play the Tigers tonight at Comerica Park.

Young hit .266 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 32 RBIs in 84 games with the Twins this season. Last year, he hit .298 with 46 doubles, 21 home runs and 112 RBIs.

Selected by the Tampa Bay Rays with the first overall pick in the 2003 MLB draft, Young is hitting .289 with 63 home runs and 376 RBIs in 689 games in the majors with Tampa Bay (2006-07) and Minnesota (2008-11).

A roster move to free up space for Young on the 25-man roster will be announced prior to tonight’s game, the team said.

Nelson pitched in 26 games (17 starts) with Class A Lakeland this season, posting a 5-11 record, 4.87 ERA and 87 strikeouts.
Haha, so strange. Considering we play them tonight.
Dude should hit better in our lineup. I certainly like the deal lol. Just wonder where he fits.

Wow, that will seem weird, especially switching teams and having to play them right away, that shall be awkward, lol. Maybe Magglio is in trouble, with the way he's been playing. Nice pickup, though.

Yeah, probably will just put pressure on Magglio to play a bit better. And if he doesn't Delmon will replace him in the starting lineup.
He will probably start for Boesch until he returns, even though Dirks has been playing real well.

I like this though, Tigers are definitely determined to win the division this year and the Twins have definitely given up on the season, which is understandable. Andy Dirks has been real good for the Tigers this year, I've been impressed, he has a bright future. I like this move though, I think if Magglio continues to struggle, this will be a great move.

Never really liked Delmon and didn't buy into everyone saying he finally realized his potential last year. He doesn't get on base, he's shitty with the glove, and he doesn't run well.

I suppose he's better than Magglio this year though, so it's still a plus for Detroit.

It's a slight upgrade, but not when the Tigers instantly put him into the 3 hole..

^leyland doesnt know how to make a lineup

Must Cabrera bat 4th every single game?
last year they were batting guys like Don Kelly 3rd
just because Avila is a catcher doesnt mean he's automatically an 8th hitter
dropping Maggs in the order is an excellent move, but lmao Young batting 3rd

cant get over the Tigers lineups. makes no sense to me

I don't think any Tigers fan agrees with any lineup he throws out there lol.

Delmon will hit third today, and play left. Magglio stays in right and will hit 7th.

I believe when Boesch comes back, he will replace Magglio in right.
Therefore Magglio to the bench. Kind of sad to see that.

Plus, I like the fact he's only 25 and did have that great season last year. If things work out well, he could just replace Magglio in the outfield.

I secretly always wanted Young on the Tigers because of Dmitri. Thought it'd be cool.
