Brandon Weeden wasn’t out of work for long.

One day after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, Weeden was claimed by the Houston Texans, a person with knowledge of the move told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Texans hadn’t announced the claim of Weeden, the former first-round draft pick who once was replaced as the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback by current Houston starter Brian Hoyer.

With Hoyer still going through concussion protocol, Texans coach Bill O’Brien said earlier Wednesday the team is preparing for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with T.J. Yates as their starter and practice squad QB Zac Dysert as the backup.

The Cowboys cut Weeden, 32, on Tuesday to make room for starter Tony Romo on the active roster upon return from injury. In four games (three starts), Weeden completed 72.4% of his passes for 738 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions before Matt Cassel replaced him.

Do you think Weeden is a better option than T.J. Yates as Hoyer goes through the NFL concussion protocol? How do you think Weeden will fair in the Texans' offense?
