They didn't even enter the off-season thinking Bosh was a realistic target

He lost a really good player who was on a cheap contract because he wanted to be able to match any offers, some offers he would be unwilling to match.

What does that have to do with mismanaging the Parsons ordeal? So defensive about Morey

It was either let him go now and have a chance to match
Or let him be ufa and not have a chance at all

And as a UFA he still wouldn't have full bird rights, since he was a 2nd rounder

If all along they weren't going to match a large offer, they never had a chance.

They had and still would have had full bird rights on him

It was worth a risk to try for melo or bosh

Morey knows you need superstars to win, he tried

15m for parsons is ridiculous

They had the cap space to get Melo or Bosh even if they accepted Parsons team option. Making him a RFA actually made his cap hold larger. He had no barring on their ability to sign a max FA.

Parsons isnt a 15m player
He was getting paid either this year or next no mater what can we agree?

Ariza for 8 is a much better deal, they still have cap for a midseason trade
Idk maybe they go get ilyasova?

So lets say they keep parsons for 900k, still miss on bosh

Next year parsons is still getting 15m
Not worth it, ariza isnt even a bad replacement. Couldve done way worse

Their offseason hasnt been great, i agree, but they arent dead just yet. Let them fill out a roster first

It doesn't matter, they could have signed Ariza and kept Parsons at 900K..

15mil for Parsons is going to look like it's worth it when the Mavs contend for the next 2-3 years and the Rockets don't.

This isn't about Houston putting together a better roster--this is about Rick Carlisle with good pieces and Kevin McHale being a well liked but clearly incompetent coach.

Also, do we expect Ariza to play like he did last season, or every other year of his career?

Who knows
As long as he hits 3s and defends

But if he plays like last year, great replacement

for one year and then lose him the next
Who knows if ariza considers or if houston gives him 32 while having parsons on the roster too

Hitting 3's isn't a given, he's a career 35% shooter

Ariza wanted a long term contract, he 100% still takes that deal.

And if they don't sign Ariza, they still would have cap for next free agency, while still holding the better player in Parsons on their roster

Let's also consider Morey's history of botching things.

I don't care anyone says, the Kevin Martin trade was never worth it. Maybe he'd have topped out as the bench player he is, now, but Carl Landry was considered a young rising star as Houston's 4 in his last year, here.

Let's also not forget about choosing Jeremy Lin over Goran Dragic or Kyle Lowry with a very reasonable contract.

Mostly bad draft picks--either because they don't develop or he jettisons them before they ever can.

Morey's genius is situational and sporadic--not constant.

And for the record, I think Morey is smart and for the most part he knows what hes doing, but this whole Parsons thing was mismanaged, all I'm saying. The Ariza signing was an overreaction
