I don't quite get patriotism, not for me.
same

There's really nothing the us does that im so proud of

And tourneys like the olympics, or a world cup or wbc or basketball championships

I guess im so used to watching sports my whole life that i dont see these countries as anything other than another team name. So its easy for me to roor for the DR in baseball over USA or any random country facing the US. Very easy

I feel like It wouldn't even be special anymore if I was American. You have so many people that all grow up in this competitive sports environment that gets pushed so much in school and college.. of course the US will be good at fucking everything.

It's all arbitrary anyway. Why would a guy from Maine root for some guy from Texas but not someone from Toronto? Why would I root for an Austrian but not a German? This national pride the whole world has is pretty unhealthy.

It's different when it's a sport that we all are familiar with and we know all the players outside of Team USA.

Everyone has an opinion on KD, or Carmelo, or Kyrie when they watch basketball at the olympics, but if you watch like Rugby or Volleyball you don't know any of the people so it's easier to root for them strictly because they're American.

People would still rather root for dicks from their own country than a nice person from another country

It's the opposite for me. I'm more likely to root for another country if I don't know anyone on either side.

but root is a strong word, I don't care either way who wins. I just watch.

Canada v. Australia could be a fun international match up down the line when the younger guys hit stride

I wouldn't be surprised if Simmons never played for the international team

I love the FIBA's extended ruling of the unsportsmanlike foul. Wrapping up someone when they're starting a fastbreak with no chance at the ball should be punished.

It's the equivalent of a flagrant 1, which is excessive since you'd be ejected after two, but I'm all for adding unsportsmanlike fouls in the NBA that give you two shots and the ball.

Fastbreaks get broken up way too often in the NBA by intentional fouls.
