Oriakhi's name was just placed on the list so I don't know what's up. I trust Chad Ford more than you on the subject. As for Lamb, he's viewed as a guy who if he stays next year and hones his skills, he could be a lottery pick. Someone in the first round would take him. And Calhoun hasn't said anything about retiring or not yet.I dont know where you heard that Oriakhi and Lamb were 50/50.
Oriakhi would not be drafted, and he's young. He'll return, 100%.
Lamb is the reason Calhoun isnt retiring. His stock is at a 2nd rounder, at best, and he will be the captain to the defending champions. I do not see him leaving unless he is told he will be a mid-1st rounder
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State says sophomore forward Kawhi Leonard plans to hire an agent and enter the NBA draft.
Leonard helped lead the Aztecs to their best season ever, when SDSU finished 34-3 and reached the NCAA round of 16 for the first time. The Aztecs lost to eventual national champion Connecticut in the West regional semifinal.
Coach Steve Fisher says he met with Leonard and his family and gave them as much information as possible. Fisher says Leonard "is going to be an exceptional NBA player."
Leonard led the Aztecs in scoring, at 15.5 points a game, and rebounding, 10.6 per game.
The deadline to declare for the 2011 NBA draft is rapidly approaching. To date, 37 college underclassmen have stated their intentions to enter the draft. A few prominent names, including Ohio State's Jared Sullinger and Baylor's Perry Jones, have said that they will return to college.
That leaves us with a handful of players who are still on the fence. Below is a look at eight potential first-round picks we'll be watching closely before the April 24 deadline.
To see our analysis of everyone who has declared, click here.
Harrison Barnes, F, Fr., UNC
Chance he declares for the draft: 50 percent
For months the word has been that Barnes is leaning toward returning for his sophomore season at Carolina. But when John Henson and Tyler Zeller both announced their decisions to return and Barnes wasn't there with them -- it raised a few eyebrows. Sources say that while Barnes ideally would like to return, the opportunity to be a top-three pick in the draft is weighing heavily on him.
Brandon Knight, G, Fr., Kentucky
Chance he declares for the draft: 75 percent
Knight's strong play in the second half of the season, along with some heroics in the NCAA tournament, have placed him firmly in the lottery conversation. But he's an extremely bright kid who does well in school and was leaning toward returning for his sophomore season. That decision is now very much up in the air. UK coach John Calipari has been encouraging him to test the waters -- in part because he has another blue chip recruit, Marquis Teague, coming to Lexington. The most recent evidence suggests that Knight will declare.
Terrence Jones, F, Fr., Kentucky
Chance he declares for the draft: 75 percent
Jones's struggles in the second half of the season have put him in a tough position. He's no longer a lock for the top 10 in this draft and could certainly use another season at Kentucky. But there are risks involved. Calipari has two talented forwards -- Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist -- coming in. Both are arguably more talented than Jones. Calipari has been encouraging Jones to declare as well and sources say there's a strong chance he will.
Tristan Thompson, PF, Fr., Texas
Chance he declares for the draft: 45 percent
Thompson was adamant after the season that he would return to Texas. But within days reports began to appear on the Internet that Thompson had hired an agent and was gone. Since then there has been quiet. Sources say that the reports were erroneous, that Thompson hasn't declared or hired an agent. But those same sources say he has been quietly interviewing agents and gathering more information about his draft stock. Given the weakness of the draft, Thompson is a likely lottery pick if he declares. He's said he wants to return to play with good friend Myck Kabongo next season. Will that motivation be enough for him to skip a likely lottery selection?
Alec Burks, G, So., Colorado
Chance he declares for the draft: 80 percent
Not only is Burks coming off a terrific sophomore season, he's also ranked as the top shooting guard in our Top 100. Burks has remained publicly on the fence about declaring for the draft. But privately he's been active in interviewing agents. I think it's pretty likely that he declares and is a late lottery to mid first-round pick.
Jordan Hamilton, F, So., Texas
Chance he declares for the draft: 90 percent
Hamilton also stated after the season that he was returning to Texas. But multiple sources tell me that he's gone and will likely hire the same agent as his former AAU teammate Derrick Williams. Hamilton should be a late lottery to mid first-round pick.
C.J. Leslie, F, Fr., NC State
Chance he declares for the draft: 50 percent
Internet reports have been suggesting for weeks that Leslie was returning to NC State for his sophomore season. He probably needs to. But in the past two weeks he's begun talking to agents. Leslie, like Kansas guard Josh Selby, may be seeing an opportunity here in a weak draft to sneak into the first round based soley on upside.
Klay Thompson, G, Jr., Washington State
Chance he declares for the draft: 95 percent
Thompson has been seriously exploring declaring for the draft for weeks with guidance from his father, former No. 1 pick Mychal Thompson. They've been getting positive reviews from NBA scouts and GMs. I think we'll see him declare in the next few days and he's a likely mid to late first-round pick.
