The Marlins and second baseman Omar Infante have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension.

Infante would have been eligible for free agency this winter.

The new deal is for two years and about $8 million, according to two sources.

Acquired from the Braves last offseason as part of the Dan Uggla deal, Infante has provided the Marlins with Gold Glove-caliber defense.

Love the move for the Marlins. With Ozzie coming in next season, they're going to want to keep as many of their good, veteran players as they can. Infante has been one of the best defensive players in the NL, like the article says, so keeping him around to try to make a run next season was imperative in my opinion. Great move.
