J.R. Smith Will Probably Opt Out of His Cavs Deal

J.R. Smith led an ill-fated rally late in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, and after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the NBA champion Golden State Warriors, Smith climbed aboard his trusty hovercraft and floated away into that good night.

Smith confirmed that he’ll likely be one of several free agents the Cavs have to make decisions on this summer; the 29-year-old guard is likely to opt out of the final year of his current deal.

JR Smith told me he'll probably opt out of the final year, $6.4 million of his contract

I think he gets 3 years at 6-7 mill per from the Cavs

He looked bad in the finals but he was also asked to be the 2nd option, which was his Knicks role. He obviously fits in better as just a catch and shoot guy here

Agreed.

He might as well call it a career and run a drug store in Denver, Colorado.

Because he practically quit on the Knicks and then he rubbed it in saying he can focus more in Cleveland cuz theres not much to do. He got into that fight when he was on the Nuggets, hes a fucking pothead, hes a chucker than doesnt play any defense, he viciously elbowed Jae Crowder, and after Game 6 of the finals he was riding that stupid hoverboard with a coors light in his hand when he should be a bit more humble that he practically shot the worst percentage on the Cavs except for Dellevedova.

You were upset that he essentially complemented the city of New York?

Yea and he dissed Cleveland. He essentially stated that he can focus more on basketball now. It wouldve been nice if he did that since the beginning of his Knicks tenure. Its a compliment to New York but to a greater extent its a slap in the face to all the season ticket holders that pay a lot of money to watch him play. I know its a game and I know that he has a right to have the freedom to do as he pleases, but not at the expense of his profession. He plays professional basketball and gets paid an exhorbitant amount, he should treat the game with respect.

I treat my career with a lot of accountability and I dont even make 1% of what JR makes. I would expect the same from him.

Theres nothing wrong with something weed, that is your right. But its a part of the big picture if you know what I mean. KD smokes, but he puts in the work to be great.
