Hawks general manager Rick Sund says that the team will extend a qualifying offer to Josh Childress.

Childress, a restricted free agent, has played in Greece the last two seasons.

If the forward wants to return to the NBA, he must opt out of his contract with Olympiakos by July 15.

Extending the qualifying offer allows Atlanta to maintain the rights on Childress, giving them the option to perhaps use him in a sign-and-trade.

I remember when he used to be on the Atlanta Hawks, which I think was 2006-07 season? Not sure; but good to the Hawks GM offer him back to join the Atlanta Hawks next season. Since Joe Johnson is leaving Atlanta, maybe.... Johnson leaving will affect the Hawks big time; no doubt about it.

Maybe he's added more levels to his game in Greece. I'd like to see him back honestly

Yeah I hope to see him return. and honestly JJ leaving would be too much of a problem. I've heard we're leaning towards a new coach and without JJ we are forced to move the ball. That might help when we have to play these elite teams that are superb in ball movement.
