The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward David Toews, the younger brother of captain Jonathan Toews, from the New York Islanders in exchange for future considerations.

David Toews has been added to the organization’s roster for the 2011 Toronto Maple Leafs Rookie Tournament this weekend in in Oshawa, Ont.

Toews, a 21-year-old Winnipeg native, scored 20 goals and added 28 assists along with 16 penalty minutes in 60 regular-season contests with the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings during the 2011-12 season. He was 2-5-7 in six playoff games.

Originally selected by the Islanders in the third round (No. 66) of the 2008 Entry Draft, Toews spent two seasons at the University of North Dakota, notching nine goals and 17 assists in 55 games with the Fighting Sioux from 2008-10 before playing with Brandon.
