http://baseball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/26718/20110821/could_thome_be_headed_back_to_phillies/The Phillies could use a left-handed power bat for their bench, which has sparked rumors that Jim Thome could return to Philadelphia.
The team has until August 31 to make a waiver trade for a player like Thome in order for him to be eligible for the postseason roster.
Thome, who played for the Phillies from 2003 to 2005, has never won a World Series.
"I think it's every player's dream to win, and I don't know, to be honest," Thome said this week.
"That's something, until that happens, is hard for me to comment on that out of respect, out of respect to this (tapping his Twins jersey)."
I'd hate to see Thome leave Minnesota this soon after he cracked #600 out of the yard. That being said, I could see a deal like this happening, because Thome has some value and the Twins are probably looking ahead towards rebuilding. In Philly, he'd be a great fit if you ask me. Great player to come in and bring some power to the lineup. Do you guys see this happening? Or is it just a rumor?
Thoughts?
