BYU guard Jimmer Fredette's popularity keeps him from attending class

Brigham Young guard Jimmer Fredette is famous in all basketball circles, but his fame has reached another level at BYU.

In fact, he is so famous in Provo, Utah, school officials requested he stop attending classes. Jimmer Fredette was mobbed on campus whenever he stepped out and his presence also affected the focus of other students, the Glen Falls Post Star reports.

"It was getting too disruptive," Al Fredette, Jimmer's father, told the Post Star. He went on to explain that Jimmer Fredette fields constant requests for autographs on campus. "He can't go anywhere in Provo without being recognized."

Now the sharpshooter who mastered “Jimmer range” stays far away from crowds and classes. He will finish the remainder of his senior year at BYU online.

Jimmer Fredette's fame, though, spreads far beyond his college campus. He has toured across the country picking up awards, winning everything from the John R. Wooden Award to the AP Player of the Year Award.

Considered the country's best player, Jimmer Fredette put up numbers to support that argument. He averaged 28.5 points, 4.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game in his senior season.

With the constant attention he has gained, it makes one wonder whether the curls Jimmer Fredette grew during the latter part of the season were a disguise. But his father told the Post Star Jimmer Fredette has a different way to stay anonymous when he must be in public.

"I asked him what he does on campus when he goes out," Al Fredette said to the Post Star. "He said he wears a hoodie and tries not to make eye contact."
