The Detroit Red Wings have lost one of their top defencemen.Brad Stuart suffered a broken jaw after a blindside hit by Calgary'sTom Kostopoulos midway through the third period of Friday's Detroit victory and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Kostopoulos was assessed a two-minute roughing penalty on the play and could face more discipline from the league.

Doctors in Vancouver, where the Red Wings play next, looked at Stuart's injury on Saturday morning and determined that surgery was not necessary.

Stuart joins Pavel Datsyuk (hand), Dan Cleary (ankle), Mike Modano(wrist) and Valtteri Filppula (groin) on the Red Wings' injury list.

Getting kinda sick of this. How many players must my beloved Red Wings lose before even the All Star Break :(

Really sucks to see the wings lose so many key players, but yet they are still able to compete.

Exactly. We have a lot of decent players playing in Grand Rapids that have a lot of playing experience. We also have a lot of very talented young players such as Tatar and Kindl. We are like 6-1-1 in the last 8 games. This is great news for us because once everyone comes back we will be golden. Datsyuk, Filppula, and Cleary will be back this month. Then Stuart and Modano will be back right before the playoffs, which will be perfect timing.
