The Blue Jays will retire former second baseman Roberto Alomar's No. 12 before their game against the Rangers on July 31.

It will be the first time the Blue Jays have retired a number worn by one of the team's players in the club's 35-year history.

Alomar is "arguably the best second baseman of all time," team president and CEO Paul Beeston said.

Figured you Jays fans would be interested in this. Alomar was a hell of a player and was definitely deserving of getting into the HoF this year

He was my favorite player growing up even though he did have a few problems in his career and some character questions.

Great decision. He's really been involved with the Jays organization a lot lately and that's nice to see.

He was awful when he was on the Mets, cant believe we traded Alex Escobar for that guy. We were supposed to get an amazing 2nd Baseman and we got shit.

Well, you missed out then. You could argue hes the best 2nd baseman in MLB history. Most will say Sandberg, but he's right up there.

Definitely right up there when he was in his prime.

This guy is damn well deserving. This is great for the Jays organization doing this.
