There are a lot of teams that don’t play their starters at all in the fourth preseason game and we got a reminder why early in the Chiefs-Packers game.

Packers defensive tackle B.J. Raji got his left ankle rolled up at the end of Kansas City’s first offensive play, a run to the right side by Peyton Hillis. Raji was able to walk off the field and went directly to the bench where he was last seen icing the area of the injury. We’ll keep an eye out for updates on his condition, although nothing from the scene suggests Raji was seriously injured. He will not return to the game.

The Packers had several other defensive starters on the field at the start of the first Chiefs possession, but wound up pulling Clay Matthews a few plays after Raji left the game. The Chiefs went with their starting offense, although they needn’t have bothered with wide receivers on the first possession. They ran the ball on nine straight plays before Ryan Succop missed a field goal.

Green Bay’s starting offense is playing as well, although coach Mike McCarthy handed play calling duties to offensive coordinator Tom Clements for the night.
