I watch a ton of college basketball and watched a ton of him after the season, he's not one of the best defenders in college basketball lol. He's got all the tools but right now he's lacking proper fundamentals, he displays poor awareness (literally falling asleep on the weakside at times), and poor understanding of defensive principals like rotations and the such.  Going to Brad Stevens is a good spot for him though, gives him the best chance to develop.
