2011 NFL Mock Draft, Version 4.0

By Jeff Risdon

Andrew Luck’s somewhat surprising decision to return to Stanford makes the top of the draft a lot more uncertain. The QB slotting is highly unpredictable at this point; I could see Gabbert going as high as #4 or as low as #12. Jake Locker could go anywhere between #7 and #40. Ryan Mallett’s draft ceiling is probably lower than most everyone thinks, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he falls further than Jimmy Clausen did a year ago.

The available veteran quarterbacks also impact the draft stock. Would you rather take a chance with your 1st round pick on an unproven collegian or send Denver your 2nd rounder for Kyle Orton, who was on pace for the most prolific passing season in NFL history through 8 games in 2010? Donovan McNabb won’t be back in Washington. Vince Young will be on the street before the Combine begins in late February. Alex Smith will likely join him. Chad Henne could be had for as low as a 4th round pick if some sources are to be believed (not sure I do). Reclamation projects like Matt Leinart, Jamarcus Russell, and Trent Edwards are readily available.

The Browns better not get A.J. Green, I don't want to play against him two times a year, no thank you.

LOVE the Jags draft.

Devlin has all the intangibles to be a great QB in the league, he's just slept on because he's from Delaware.

Jimmy Smith is probably the most physical CB to come out of Colorado, but he won't be a CB at the next level. He will be a safety.

I'm drooling over seeing Prince at 13 for us. I'm fine with the 2nd rounder too. They need help on the O-Line too obviously. Just a few more pieces needed.

Are we seriously trying to tell a Jags fan about a Jaguar great? Really?

There is also a CB on Colorado named Jimmy Smith.

Horrible mock. Nate Solder is a player who will be taken in the 20s (unless some late teens team REALLY needs an OL and falls in love) and they have him at #5.

If the Dolphins plan to keep the wild cat offense, I don't see how they could pass up Mark Ingram who runs out of it so well and have yet another weapon. They tried Pat White already and didn't work out, I don't see them taking Newton at all.

I also do not see Locker being taken over Mallett. I'm pretty sure the world has established how overrated Locker is based on 1 game in his college career.

The wildcat offense will more than likely be gone this year.

HATE the bears pick here. They need to go OL or WR round 1.
Completely disagree. From what I've heard is that there aren't really any OT's worth taking in the first round and you can always draft an OG/C in the 2nd or 3rd round, so I'd much rather go DT or CB in the first round. WR might be a possibility, but it would have to be a stud #1 guy, not just somebody to throw into the mix, because the mix we have is good, just needs that #1 guy.

On the other hand, our pick is towards the end of each round, so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to snag that OG/C in the first round a little early, since there's a chance the guy we want might not be there by the time our pick roles around in the 2nd round.

Yeah, I don't really follow much of the draft, so if you're right, then that wouldn't be a bad pick for the Bears. Their line is pretty much a mess, so if they could get a T in the 1st, G in the 2nd, and C in the 3rd (Kreutz isn't gonna last forever), I wouldn't even care that they used their first 3 picks on the OL.
