For the AL, I'm going with Adrian Gonzalez. Best AVG in the league, tied for the most RBIs in the league with 103, and 23 homeruns (5 in 3 games recently). Does anyone think Bautista is still a candidate? Is Granderson a candidate?

For the NL, I've got to say it's in the air. Matt Kemp is my choice though, or maybe even Joey Votto who has a .441 OBP.

Matt Kemp because I'm a homer, and because he actually deserves it

and Jose Bautista easily
.445 OBP (next closest is .429)
.646 SLG% (next closest is .587)
1.101 OPS (next closest is .972)
leads league in homers, walks by 18

just far and away the best player in the AL
even go SABR. worth almost a full win more than the next guy. 7.8 to 6.9

The thing that gets me going for Gonzalez is his RBIs, and plus he's on a winning team if anyone else believes an MVP should be on a winning team. So IDK if the MVP will actually go to Baustista, but I do agree that he deserves it. He's been so patient this year at the plate. Pitchers are scared to pitch to him lol

yeah Adrian has a higher BA, but Jose's OBP is so far ahead

thats what matters
you want to get hits, but when you're not, take your walks. getting on base as much as possible is the name of the game

as for RBI, meh. dont even look at that. so irrelevant
of course Adrian has more RBI. look who hits in front of him. Ellsbury and Pedroia. 2 other MVP candidates.

who hits in front of Bautista? it's someone new every game and nowhere close to Ells/Pedroia

would Bautista have 100 rbi in that Boston lineup? yes. and no one would even argue he's not MVP
would Adrian have 100 rbi in Toronto? probably not and no one would be talking about him as MVP

AL: Any Yankee or Red Sox MVP candidate
NL: Justin Upton

And rios the reason he's getting those RBIs is because the hitters behind him consistenly get on base. Yes Escobar gets on base a lotfor Bautista but that's it.

Too many Tigers fans on this forum... :p Anyways... Realistically, I think you're totally right about the RBI situation. Bautista could easily be over 100 with better hitters in front of him like Adrian has. And I think you may have changed my opinion lol. I want to see what some Red Sox fans have to say though.

Back to the NL MVP, I don't see why Kemp wouldn't get it. I think Jose Reyes might of been a contender but he's not a HR/RBI hitter like Kemp is, and Kemp is a base stealer as well. Joey Votto's OPS is higher than Kemps, and so is his OBP, but overall, Kemp is driving in runs, stealing bases, hitting homeruns.

I'm surprised Pujols isn't really in the race this year though during his contract season.

The reason Bautista doesn't have 100 RBI's isn't because of the poor lineup around him, it's because he's hitting .240 with RISP.

yeah, uh, how about you show his chances?
he has 86 at bats with RISP

86!

thats 86th in the AL bro
that means 85 players have had more chances with RISP (min. 75 at bats)

I still think he'd have over 100 in the 4th spot with the Yankees or Red Sox.

Well to be fair he doesn't get to hit with RISP that often.

And he's also struck out 6 less times than A-Gon in 70 less at bats.

And having less at bats doesn't take away from the fact that he's still hitting .240.

I think for sports like the NBA, it works that way but I think the MLB is a whole different story because you can be a good hitter on any team. But with the NBA, a player's stats are more inflated when they aren't on good teams because they get more opportunities to score.

so?
he still gets on base WAY more often
who cares how often he K's. it's still way less than his walks which is excellent
