Rockies Looking For Starting Pitchers

Roy Oswalt admitted his arm never felt better with the Rockies before he strained his left hamstring Sunday. Oswalt said he felt the muscle pop as he covered home plate on a wild pitch. The injury will sideline him several weeks.
 
Oswalt will go on the disabled list Monday, with the Rockies considering adding a position player until another pitcher is needed.
The 35-year-old's injury only further cluttered the mess that is the back of the Rockies' rotation. Colorado is 15-30 in games started by anyone other than Jhoulys Chacin, Jorge De La Rosa and Tyler Chatwood.  The Rockies will continue exploring trades for a starter. They have talked with the Chicago Cubs about Matt Garza and have interest in Houston's Lucas Harrell, among others.
 
Colorado talked extensively with the Marlins, but the discussions never advanced in recent days when Miami made it clear it wanted the Rockies to eat the remaining $5.6 million on Ricky Nolasco's contract. The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired the right-hander for three pitchers Saturday night.  The Rockies were willing to give up higher-rated prospects than the Dodgers to lower the amount they would absorb on Nolasco's contract, but Miami was determined to save money.
 
Garza represents an intriguing possibility. In talking to opposing front-office executives, the Cubs are more interested in players than moving the right-hander's contract, which could help the Rockies. Harrell was demoted to the bullpen Sunday. He performed well for the Astros last season, but owns a 5.04 ERA. He is viewed as a rebound candidate, and is only in the first year of salary arbitration.
