Sweeney Murti of WFAN in New York just reported that Jorge Posada will announce his retirement within the next two weeks.

We already knew Posada wasn’t returning to the Yankees in 2012, but he hadn’t completely ruled out the possibility of continuing his career elsewhere. In fact, there were rumors of the Rays expressing interest just two weeks ago. Still, it would have been weird to see him end his career anywhere else.

Posada, 40, batted just .235/.315/.398 with 14 home runs, 44 RBI and a .714 OPS over 387 plate appearances last season. If Murti’s report is indeed correct, he’ll call it a career with a .273 lifetime batting average to go along with 275 home runs, 1,065 RBI, five All-Star appearances and four World Series rings.

I will miss Jo-Po, one of my favorite players

Same man.

It's the right time to go, he's a below average hitter at best right now and that was always his best skill. It was a joy to watch him the last 10 years or so (I didn't do a lot of watching in the 90s since I was a little kid.) Dude was tough as nails and will hopefully be a HOF one day. The Yankees have had a lot of greats behind the plate over the years. Yogi, Bill Dickey, Elston Howard, Thurman Munson, and now Jorge.

I'm so relieved Posada won't be one of those players who goes to another team to try and extend his career and just disappear as a mediocre player.

Really going to miss him though, I've grown up with him behind the plate.

Good career for Jorge, he definitely got better as his career progressed. Funny as shit when people used to tell me Posada was better than Piazza, lmao.

Glad he decided to hang it up, was certainly a good time for him. Kudos to a wonderful career.
