ROY: Harper!
Cy: Dickey
MVP: Wright. Wright is sitting on a 4.8 WAR (MLB leading) at the hardest position in baseball. Cutch is crushing it, but he’s been terrible in fielding this year.

3B crushes your body worse than any other position, imo. Look at Youkilis, Wright, Zimmerman, David Freese, Cabrera, Longoria, Ian Stewart, Middlebrooks, Chisenhall, Beltre, Chipper, and Sandoval as injured starting 3B I can think of that were hurt this year or last just of the top of my head...

I mean it’s a matter of opinion, many people will tell you one versus the other. Most experts will tell you it’s 3rd.

Catching beats up your knees, but 3rd beats up your everything.

3rd Base is probably tougher phyisically and Catcher is tougher mentally. As to which one is tougher, it could go either way.

As someone who has played both 3B and C fairly extensively, there is no doubt that catching is a million times harder and more physically taxing.

That’s your opinion. I’ve played both as well. Some people have better knees/backs than others.

But major league 3B get hurt more often than catchers, that I can tell you.

You are talking about a cage, full padding stationary position versus an unpadded position that often requires snap movement, diving, rolling, twisting, blocking bullets into the outfield, and rifling the ball to 1st-sometimes from an awkward position to beat out a runner.

I fully agree C is mentally the toughest.

If you have a bad back or bad knees, catching isn't for you.

Maybe they have a lower tolerance of pain.

The majority of the time the ball finds a spot where the gear doesn't cover and catchers do everything you said 3B do except for the bullets to the OF thing.

Not really. If the ball is finding a spot the gear doesn’t cover then you can catch. Rarely a ball takes a nasty foul tip and bounces back at you. And rarely you have to block the plate. Meanwhile at 3B you are almost always in danger of taking a line drive to the body or cracking a rib making a dive for a catch, pulling a muscle twisting to make a throw to 2nd, 1st, etc.

I agree with this, although I wish someone would play better than Harper because it's such a big hype machine right now.
