A Mets press release today announced that the club has hired former Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi and have named him Special Assistant to new GM Sandy Alderson.
Ricciardi and Alderson worked together for over a decade back in Oakland.
Ricciardi was reportedly offered a similar position with the Red Sox recently but declined their offer and opted to go to the Mets to work alongside Alderson once again.
Ricciardi will assist in all aspects of baseball operations and Alderson told reporters today that he has first-hand knowledge that Ricciardi is a "superb talent evaluator".
