ESPNs Adam Schefter reports that the Lions are expected to hire Patriots director of pro scouting Bob Quinn as their next general manager.

Recent reports mentioned that the Lions were hoping to have their GM search wrapped up by Saturday, but it appears as though theyre sold on Quinn leading the front office.

The first order of business will be to determine whether or not theyll retain HC Jim Caldwell and the rest of the teams coaching staff. Indications are that Caldwell has at least a chance of returning for the 2016 season.

However, the Lions have maintained that this decision will ultimately be up to their next GM.

Quinn, 39, joined the Patriots as a player personnel assistant back in 2000. Since then, hes worked his way up through the organization.

Patriots HC Bill Belichick said that Quinn has handled a number of responsibilities including pro, college, and advance scouting and has done a real solid job with all of them, per Mike Reiss

he's probably our #3 or #4 most important person in regards to our drafting and scouting, behind belichick and nick caserio.

Can't really say too much though, because its hard to say what his impact was truly

I'd be curious to see an evaluation of the success of executives hired away from the Patriots, because for the most part the coaches that get hired away end up flaming out.

Not really

He's doing well in Atlanta, and had good moments in KC

hence "fine"
