Lidstrom finished the 2010-11 season with 62 points and a minus-2 rating - the first minus rating of his career. He was also named a Norris Trophy nominee and will hope to win the trophy for the seventh time in his career.
In nearly 1,500 games played in the NHL, Lidstrom has 1,108 points. He adds 183 points in 258 playoff games.
The Red Wings have scheduled an 11am et conference call to make the announcement.
Terms of the one-year deal are not yet finalized.
