Why does the MLB always showcase the best hitters in the league for the home run derby and the Slam Dunk contest doesnt do that anymore? I just dont get it, the best players in the NBA should be in the contest and thats far from it.

because they're all afraid of getting a boo-boo.

Best players in the NBA =/= Best dunkers in the NBA.

That said, both contests are worthless and a waste of time.

A lot of people watch it though. It's entertaining. Sure it doesn't mean much but I love it.

I seriously dont understand why more NBA stars do it. I would love to see Wade, James, and Amare be in it.

Lebron was supposed be in it, but I think he backed out. Plus I think the NBA prefers to have the rookies, and sophs in. Then they add like one veteran star. I'd like to see a year of the stars.

LeBron is scared of losing the contest and hurting his image.

LeBron is scared of losing the contest and hurting his image.
but we all know he would win.

and after his stupid 1-hour announcement special, his image has already gotten the <Censored> beat out of it.

LeBron isn't a stylish dunker, hes a power dunker, he'd probably lose.

Because they are similar in many ways. They are events that try to attract fans by showcasing top talent in the league. Players actually want to win these competitions. It can also show up and coming stars that not many fans know of.

I think both of them have pros and cons, but last years slam dunk contest was just awful. You really can't compare them though because the "best" HR hitters that year are put in the HR Derby. The best dunkers aren't necessarily in the Dunk Contest each year.

If the NBA cared about the Dunk Contest, IMO would be the better of the two.
