This was shocking news as Georgia met with Richt and all parties "mutually agreed to part ways." Richt is a super-nice guy but at the end of the day, it all comes down to dethroning Alabama and Florida in the SEC. Richt always pulled down top recruiting classes but the Bulldogs have generally underachieved. I still can't believe the Stafford, Moreno, AJ Green team didn't win a National Championship.
With Richt gone, we can assume Kirby Smart is the early favorite to take over in Athens. Smart is a Georgia alum who has patiently coached alongside Nick Saban for about 8 years. I'm also curious where Richt goes. He should have no shortage of offers but would he prefer to remain in the SEC? The South Carolina job makes a ton of sense but does his status now put Texas in a position to oust Charlie Strong sooner?
There's going to be one hell of a coaching round tree this bowl season.
