Not surprised by either, quite frankly.

Although I actually thought Colon would make a run for the award in the AL. I mean, that's a hell of a comeback he made, given how out of shape the bro is.

You serious right now bout Colon?

Ellsbury played 18 games last year. Before this year, he had a career 17 HRs over a 4 year span

Hits over 30 this season, over .300, over 100 RBI, and is an MVP candidate

If ells did not win this award, I would boycott baseball forever

I don't think players should win the Comeback Player of the Year award because they were hurt. The CPOY should be for guys like Berkman who were bad last season but came back and had a great season.

Agreed with Colon, he had a great bounce back year after being out of baseball for years.

But Ellsbury had an unbelievable year and deserved it.

And of course Berkman gets good again after leaving the Yankees <_<

Before this year, 2009 was his best year.

2009 (153 games): 188 H, 27 2B, 8 HR, 60 RBI, 94 R, .301 AVG, .770 OPS
2011 (158 games): 212 H, 46 2B, 32 HR, 105 RBI, 119 R, .321 AVG, .928 OPS

thats a pretty big turnaround

It's not like he hit .250 or something then did that though. He still hit .300

That doesn't make you a Comeback Player though, just because you improved doesn't mean you deserve the award.

Does Verlander deserve the CPOY because his ERA was a run lower than last year?

That is a terrible example

Verlander had a bad 2008, but his next "worse season" was when he won 17 games and was an All Star

Did you read what I said? I said I thought he would make a run for it. However, he wore down and went through some injuries down the stretch which squashed his chances.

Ellsbury 'came back' from injury. For an award that has a very loose definition like this one (and like MVP), that is good enough for me to give it to him.

Ellsbury is more like a breakout player, then a comeback player. He would have had to actually perform as well as he did this year in a previous season, for him to be 'coming back' to his normal self.
