The Tigers cut loose left-hander Dontrelle Willis tonight, halting after two years and two months his largely fruitless career with the club.

Willis was designated for assignment to make room for right-hander Max Scherzer, who returns from the minors Sunday and rejoins the rotation. With Willis’ departure, right-hander Amradno Galarraga stays with the club and assumes Willis’ rotation spot. Despite playing in a park that favors left-handed pitching, the Tigers have returned to an all right-handed rotation.

If Willis isn't traded or claimed on waivers by week from Tuesday, the Tigers will release him. No matter what, this is end of his Tigers career.

The Tigers will owe Willis the remainder of his $12 million salary for this season, the final year of the three-year contract in which he never approached the consistency the club expected.

I am sure we will have to release him. No one will want him.

The thing is he hasn't even pitched THAT horribly.
Obviously it's not good, but I mean send him to the minors at least and let him try it there. He doesn't deserve to be released.
Especially since he and none of our pitchers get any run support, so we are always forced to pitch out of deficits.
I'm really pissed right now. Especially now that we have an all righty lineup.
Hopefully Dumbrowski has some sort of idea to get us a lefty now.

Goodbye Dontrelle, I'll always like you no matter what. Truly one of the nicest dudes in the league today.

Now we don't have to hear before every season how he is going to turn it around.

Seeing as he was a free agent after this season, wouldn't of heard it anyways..

He should convert to a reliever and see how he does. Maybe an nl team should give him another shot but this time as a reliever.

He should come to New York and become a closer. His song could be Empire State of Mind. And his nickname could still be the D-train. I can see it now "The D-train is ready to close the station."

Either way Pugz, flat out getting rid of him makes no sense. Seeing as he does make that much money.

He also could be another Rick Ankiel if he worked at it. Could of used him as a pinch hitter or something, IDK.

Four Teams Interested In Dontrelle Willis

3:24pm: The Marlins will have to trade for Willis if they want to acquire him, according to Clark Spencer and Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. Willis would prefer to start and play closer to the West Coast, so the Marlins have to move now if they want Willis.

12:52pm: At least four teams are interested in recently-designated Tigers lefty Dontrelle Willis, tweets Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post: the Diamondbacks, Mets, Brewers, and Marlins.

Arizona's interest was reported yesterday by Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, with agent Matt Sosnick noting that Willis would like to play there. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News wrote that the Mets were not interested in Willis, while Capozzi termed the Marlins' interest in a reunion as "mild." Today is the first we've heard of the Brewers. At any rate, it appears that the 28-year-old southpaw will be traded rather than released.

That's interesting. I didn't really think anyone would be that interested in him. We better try and trade him to get some value out of him.

I think he could be a decent pitcher in the National League. There have been countless pitchers who play well in the NL.

The Tigers have acquired RHP Billy Buckner from the Diamondbacks for Dontrelle Willis and cash.

Buckner will be optioned to Toledo by the Tigers.
He's 0-3 with an 11 ERA... But I guess its better than nothing ahaha.

Wish D-Train the best of luck in Arizona. Hopefully gets his career on track there and proves the doubters wrong.
