The A's have released Manny Ramirez after the outfielder-designated hitter requested his outright release, according to a San Jose Mercury News report on Friday night.
Ramirez has been eligible to join the A's on May 30 after serving a 50-game suspension for violating major-league baseball's drug policy last season.
There was no word on whether Ramirez would try to resume his career elsewhere.
