I’ve heard from several sources that infielder Grant Green, the A’s top pick in the 2009 draft, will be joining the team in Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Green, 25, is batting .318 with 11 homers and 49 RBIs; the question mark for him always has been his defense, but he has been playing second base all season at Triple-A Sacramento after bouncing from shortstop to the outfield and back to the infield since being drafted. Recent reports are that he has improved at the position. Green, a right-handed hitter, is likely to be in a platoon with Eric Sogard; with the Pirates throwing lefty Jeff Locke, that means Green will make his big-league debut tomorrow at PNC Park. The A’s face another lefty, Francisco Liriano, on Wednesday.

The corresponding move likely could involve infielder Adam Rosales, one of the longer tenured A’s players (he first played for Oakland in 2010) and the current right-handed hitting half of a platoon with Sogard. Rosales, 30, has had a tough time offensively this season, going 3 for his past 31 with 10 strikeouts and hitting .200 overall. He also made a costly error in the eighth inning that led to a run in Kansas City’s 4-3 victory over the A’s on Saturday.
