Major League Baseball held the 2012 First-Year Player Draft on Monday night in New Jersey.

The Houston Astros held the first overall pick in the three-day event, running through Wednesday.

Houston should have taken Buxton. He's the prototypical 5-tool guy.

Talent wise it looks like the Jays had a good first day. Got a guy who apparently has 80 speed, a shorter version of Chris Sale and a bunch of high ceiling players with the sandwich picks. Hopefully a couple of them pan out if signed.

Their draft is always done mid-season.

The draft is done mid-season because the high school/college baseball season ends right around this time. If they wait until after the season, the college semesters would have started already.

I love the Gavin Cecchini pick for the Mets. A very good impact bat at SS which is needed and at the same time an area of need. Just gotta hope those guys develop into something good.

Dodgers drafted a position player in the first round for the first time since 2002! (Loney)
I was obviously shocked. they always go for HS pitchers

This is only the first round results, there are like 50 rounds of the MLB draft. He could get drafted tonight
