Mike Brown was considered a frontrunner for the Warriors' job, but is expected to sign a four-year, $18 million contract with L.A. -- succeeding Phil Jackson as coach.

Dang. I got excited when I read the title. I mean Al Roker can report weather like a pro, so why not coach? lol.

I had a feeling he wouldn't be out as a coach too long. I mean when a team needs a coach, guys like Mike Brown, Avery Johnson, Byron Scott, are some of the top options, main reason because of the Coach of the Year next to their name.

The moment word started coming out that LeBron's old coach might become Kobe's new coach, we all were wondering, "Well, what does Kobe think about that?"

I think we all kind of assumed that he was likely consulted beforehand. No way the Lakers hire Kobe's next coach -- and Mike Brown no less -- without at least asking what he thought, right?

Wrong.

According to SI.com, Kobe was "surprised" by the news about Brown and also a bit stunned that he wasn't part of the decision-making process. Kobe before had been a solid backer of assistant Brian Shaw for the head coaching position and still reportedly remains in Shaw's corner.

Shaw of course would be a bit more of a continuation of things that the Lakers had under Phil Jackson while Brown will come in and look to implement his own system and structure. For a superstar that might be looking at his final coach, I'm sure Kobe would've liked to have a say.

Bryant doesn't have a ton of time left in the league and his next coach will be the man in charge of getting him to another NBA Finals. If that doesn't happen, Kobe's not going to be happy. So when he says "surprised" he realy means, "They better have freaking gotten this right because they didn't ask me."

i honestly dont know what to think of this move
defense should be better. hopefully he limits fisher's minutes
hopefully the lakers get a PG and some shooters

Lakers will be playing great defense, but I'm not sure how the offense will go. MB didn't have much of a chance to create an offense here, because when LeBron didn't have the ball he wouldn't move. I guess they could hire him a nice offensive assistant. But the Lakers will be a great defense team under him, and MB can hide horrible defenders and make them look decent in his system. He had guys like Drew Gooden and Mo Williams in his highly ranked defenses year after year.

Damn I dont think Mike Brown is the type of personality that can handle LA and what the city entails. Rudy T couldnt handle it and he won 2 championships.

Everything aside, I do hope he does have good success there.. He's a good guy, I liked him as the coach more then most Cavs fans. I thought he did a damn good job with what he had. Kinda got left out to dry by LeBron last year. He makes the funniest faces on the sidelines too.

im not condemning it like most lakers fans are

it's getting ugly here though
lakers owner has been jerry buss and he's been great. started showtime, started cheerleaders in the NBA, he's done a lot.

but his son is going to be in charge soon, he's already getting more power.
he hired MB

and he just fired the Lakers assistant GM who's been with them for 25 years!
he's going to be one of those dumbass owners that thinks they know everything
oh boy. it's just now starting. he didnt like phil, phil didnt like him, so he hires someone completely opposite of phil and didnt consult kobe at all

it's going to get murky really soon...
damn big ego from a nobody. hell

Well you're also gonna be in trouble if your players are the deciding factor on who you pick as a coach.. You're hoping your coach outlasts the veteran players. MB is a players coach though, so I'm sure Kobe and the other Lakers players will like him.

There's a difference between players being the deciding factor on who your coach is and the face of the franchise who has helped this team win 5 championships having a say.
