I think this will get overturned, its too big for baseball not to.
MLB is set to make a press release this afternoon. Rumors are that the call will be overturned and Galarraga will be given the perfect game.
Tigers just put this on their Twitter, that was nice of them. Haha:Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Commissioner Bud Selig will have a statement on Thursday regarding Armando Galarraga's almost perfect game.
Baseball officials have reportedly convened in order to review Wednesday's blown call by umpire Jim Joyce, which prevented the 21st perfect game in major league history. While Selig has the power to reverse the call, we're not counting on him to do that. At the very least, it should open the door to expanded instant replay so the same mistake isn't made again.
Galarraga just received a Corvette from General Motors in honor of his effort last night! #mlb
one would assume, then, that at bat would no longer count. Not that it matters; Trever Crowe goes from 0-4 to 0-3.you can't overturn that, because another official at bat occurred after it.
if you listened to Galarraga's interview, he even thought the guy could be safe. There is NO instant replay on that type of call.
If anything, this will maybe push for that in the future.. Move on
I don't see how you wouldn't overturn something so stupid and careless but I don't think they'll do itMan if Bud Selig doesnt overturn it I will lose all respect for that guy. Idc if its not in the rules, do the right thing and give the guy his perfect game.
Baseball comissioner Bud Selig said he would look at the game's umpiring system and the expanded use of instant replay, but would not reverse the blown call that cost Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers a perfect game on Wednesday night.
"While the human element has always been an integral part of baseball, it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed," Selig said in a statement. "Given last night's call and other recent events, I will examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features."
Selig said he would consult with baseball's labor unions and the game's special committee for on-field matters before announcing any decisions.
Selig also praised umpire Jim Joyce, whose blown call in the bottom of the ninth cost Galarraga the perfect game, as well as Galarraga and Tigers manager Jim Leyland for the way they handled the situation.
"The dignity and class of the entire Detroit Tigers organization under such circumstances were truly admirable and embodied good sportsmanship of the highest order," Selig said. "[Galarraga] and Detroit manager Jim Leyland are to be commended for their handling of a very difficult situation.
"I also applaud the courage of umpire Jim Joyce to address this unfortunate situation honestly and directly. Jim's candor illustrates why he has earned the respect of on-field personnel throughout his accomplished career in the Major Leagues since 1989," Selig said.
I couldn't even sleep last night, lol. I was very worked up as were a lot of others.Glad he is going to perhaps expand the replay system after Galarraga got massively ###### over.
I am still EXTREMELY angered by this whole situation. I could not focus in school today.
Perfect game or not, if you're mood wasn't lifted by his performance...the problem is you guys, not what happens. This is like exactly something what Detroit needed.
The mood before this game around time was so low, this would of boosted the spirits in Michigan so much. But now instead we are more low then were were before the game.
