Roughly four weeks before Alex Gordon re-signed with Kansas City, Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila told reporters he had ended conversations with the 32-year-old outfielder, and that chances of a reunion with Yoenis Cespedes were shot, too.

Avila didn't say anything, however, about Justin Upton.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Tigers are close to a long-term deal with Upton, the three-time All-Star who turned 28 in August.

This is a reasonable deal, but Upton doesn't really strike me as someone who will age well.

I like it.  Definitely a good deal considering he's only 28.
