The New York Yankees return to work Monday to try and figure out how to win the team's 28th championship. The New York Post notes that there were rumors this weekend that the Steinbrenner family was already discussing a new contract with general manager Brian Cashman, the 44-year-old graduate of Catholic University said nothing had happened yet.
Cashman's current deal, which is worth about $6 million over the last three seasons, ends at the start of November.
While Cashman figures out his situation, the team is "likely discuss making a contract offer" to ace CC Sabathia before he has the opportunity to opt out of the remaining four years and $92 million of his current contract three days after the World Series ends, the Post reports.
The team is "not allergic" to doing a deal with Sabathia, the Post notes, "as long as (he) isn't looking in the eight- or nine-year range."
