Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson captured the American League MVP award Thursday following a superb inaugural season in Toronto, preventing Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout from earning the honor for a second straight year.

In a more lopsided vote than most pundits anticipated, Donaldson received 23 of the 30 first-place votes to join George Bell (1987) as the only players in Blue Jays history to be named AL MVP. Trout, who led the league in wins above replacement, received the other seven first-place votes, while Kansas City Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain finished a distant third.

Trout had better numbers across the board
Donaldson only led in rbis and runs

But as they say, politics

Are you really not going to take defence into consideration? Josh Donaldson legitimately was elite on both sides of the field.

If anything Trout should have won the Hank Aaron award

This year isn't even the Cabrera over Trout case either. You couldn't have gone wrong with either players

As i said, this is definitely not as bad as miguel over trout
Donaldson was great and good for him

I don't think Cabrera and Verlander lets him see them on the weekends, either

I don't even see how Trout's numbers were better. Trout marginally had a better average by 0.02 and was worth .3 more wins.

Homeruns, rbi's and all that fun stuff, Donaldson was equal or better than Trout.

Then throw in Trout's declining defence (which he shouldn't even been nominated for the gold glove) and the fact Donaldson played tremendous D, and it becomes a pretty easy conclusion that Donaldson deserved the MVP.
