The organization that traded C.C. Sabathia and Cliff Lee away in high-profile summer trades is about to acquire an ace of its own. The Indians and Rockies have agreed on a deal that will send Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post (on Twitter).

Jimenez, 27, has a 4.20 ERA with 8.6 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and a 46.8% ground ball rate midway through an up and down season that has included flashes of brilliance, stretches of poor performance and a stint on the disabled list with a cuticle cut on the right-hander’s thumb. The third place finisher in last year's Cy Young voting, Jimenez broke out in 2010, posting a 2.88 ERA with 8.7 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 221 2/3 innings.

Some of Jimenez's value comes from a contract that now seems team-friendly. Jimenez earns $2.8MM this year and $4.2MM in 2012. His contract includes a $5.75MM club option ($1MM buyout) for 2013 and an $8MM club option for 2014 ($1MM buyout).

Like I said, very big risk for the Indians but it could pay off big time.

Yep, love that the Indians are being aggressive though, but very risky considering we are a low market team.

6:55pm: The deal will include Drew Pomeranz, Alex White and Matt McBride, according to Renck (on Twitter).

What BC said. High risk high reward type of trade for the tribe.

Apparently he's still in uniform for the Rockies at the moment.

I imagined him going to the Indians

Oh well, hopefully he doesn't suck it up

Deal made official by the Indians, pending physical.

Really excited about this trade even though it cost a lot. Just gotta hope he stays healthy. Getting him away from Coors should help.

and its not like he's in the AL East either

he's going to a pitchers park in the AL Central. It should be a nice pickup for the Indians

This is definitley a make or break deal for Chris Antonetti (first year as GM). Took a lot of balls for him to accept this deal.

Without looking at stats though, isn't the hitting the biggest issue in Cleveland? IDK why they didn't address that harder.

Outside of Pence/Beltran there wasn't much available in the hitting deparment. Beltran wouldn't waive his no trade clause to come to Cleveland and I guess they just didn't get serious in Pence talks. Ludwick would have been nice, but I guess the Indians didn't feel it was worth it.

This move helps for this year, but it wasn't just to help try to win the division this year. He's in Cleveland for at least 2 more years so they have a 3 year window pretty much to try and get a ring, and Ubaldo obviously would be a huge contributor if the Tribe somehow did win.

If the Indians are still in the race by mid August and Choo comes back, that's as good as a trade.

If Choo gets back on track that's a good deal, but he's been terrible this year.
