Former manager Ron Gardenhire will serve as Special Assistant to the General Manager. His primary duties will center on the Twins' minor-league affiliates and player development.

A guy who religiously disagrees with SABR as much as one might disagree with putting onions in ice cream should work out just great having a hand in Minnesota's farm system functions and player development!

Tigers were this close -> | | to firing Ausmus and hiring Gardenhire. It was to the point where Gardenhire's potential contract was ironed out. I'm so glad the Tigers chose to retain Ausmus, and I say this as a person who hates Ausmus. Gardenhire has a stone age view on baseball.
