So one of the controversies of the day Monday, via e-mails and Twitter, centered on Pat Tillman and whether his valiant life, tragic death and turning down NFL millions to join the Army Rangers in the war in Afghanistan merits a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Cris Collinsworth has advanced this cause often since Tillman's death in 2004, and it has gained some traction. The Tillman story is truly an amazing one. He was a seventh-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 1998, worked his way into their starting lineup, made Dr. Z's all-pro team in 2000, played four years, and, on the verge of earning a $3.6-million free-agent contract in 2002, quit football to serve his country. On draft weekend 2004, he was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan. Tillman is the shiningest example of everything that is good about young people in this country -- he gave up riches to do what he thought was right, and he died doing it.

Does he deserve to be in the HOF? Why or why not? Shouldnt the HOF be solely on performance on the football field?

He only played three years. If you're going to honor him, the Hall of Fame is not the proper way to do it.

Yeah, maybe retire his number, make a special day during the season or something maybe like they do with Jackie Robinson.

The HOF is suppose to honor what the player has done on the football field. I respect Pat Tillman so much, but like said before, the HOF isn't proper.

He should not be put into the HOF.

They should dedicate a week to him or something, make everyone wear a patch or something of that nature. But HOF should be based on talent, not honor.

Hall of Fame is based on what you've done on the field. You can be a murderer, a rapist, or whatever off of it, but as long as you were a stud on the field, you should be included.

On the flip side, even if you die for your country, or save lives, or whatever, if you weren't just as exemplary on the field, you don't deserve to be inlucded.

Should he be included into the Hall of Fame? Yes. Put his uniform or something in there, but for his play? God no. He was very overrated and had one good year which produced 109 tackles and one interception. Meaning that he got thrown on a lot.

Just to prove that fact, in 2008, his first year as an All-Pro, Nnamdi Asomugha defended nine passes, had just 33 tackles and one interception. The reason? No one ###### with him.
