I think he'd be a slight upgrade over Chavez at DH.

Pena is a pretty big upgrade. A lot more power out of his bat, but still, there's a good chance a trade is not made.

Yeah, he'd also feast at Yankee stadium lol.

5:06pm: GM Brian Cashman told MLB.com's Bryan Hoch that a trade is "very unlikely" for the Yankees and that he's "not optimistic" about making a deal. MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports (on Twitter) that Pena isn't going anywhere.

IDK why Chicago wouldn't take anything for him.
He is on a 1 year deal correct? lol.

He's probably a type A or type B free agent, thus the Cubs would get a draft pick in the first or 2nd round if he leaves via FA instead of trading for some lower tier prospect.

I don't foresee anyone giving up a top pick for Carlos Pena.
I guess I could be wrong though.

If he's a type B free agent, you don't lose a draft pick for signing him, the team that lost him just gains a pick.

You are right, he is type B.
Makes sense then, didn't even think bout that.

Carlos Pena has been great for us this year. His bat is not a very good contact bat, but he's great defensively, and his power is nice as well. He wants to compete, and you can tell that it's killing him to be with the Cubs this year. Time to move him for whatever value we can get.

No, no it's not...

Like cheato said, the return we could get with him leaving in free agency is probably better than what we get out of a trade with the Yankees.

There's also still the possibility Pena is brought back after this season, if the Cubs can't find another first basemen (Pujols/Fielder).

Chances are a trade doesn't happen, Pena finishes the year with the Cubs IMO.

I don't want him anyway. His best asset is his fielding and with Tex at first he would serve primarily as a platoon DH.

This would be a good asset for a team like the Giants.
