Missouri Tigers officials have dropped the suspension of freshman quarterback Blaine Dalton and reinstated him to the program.

Missouri associate athletic director Chad Moeller confirmed Tuesday that Dalton is back with the team.

Dalton was arrested April 31 as part of a traffic stop near the Missouri campus. Columbia police stopped a vehicle driven by Dalton and found 10 Hydrocodone pills, a prescription painkiller, and alcohol, police said.

Dalton was arrested on several charges, including suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of false identification and three traffic charges. He was released from the Boone County Jail early Friday morning after posting bonds totaling $5,000.

But since the arrest, a friend of Dalton's who was in the car said the pills belonged to him.

The Kansas City Star reported that no charges have been filed by the Boone County prosecutor's staff in connection with the possession of prescription pills.

And Jim Dalton, father of the Missouri quarterback, told the Star: "The whole thing was blown way out of proportion."

Dalton, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder, started spring as the Tigers' fourth-string quarterback after skipping his final semester at Blue Springs (Mo.) High School to prepare for the upcoming season. He ascended to the No. 3 position for the Tigers, but was considered a candidate to potentially redshirt after sophomore Blaine Gabbert and sophomore Jimmy Costello had staked their claim at quarterback during the Tigers' spring practice.
So, instead of being suspended some games, in which he would be watching from the outside, he gets to spend those games sitting on the sidelines? Not seeing much of a transition here. I mean, he`s a freshman, he has another 3, possibly 4(if redshirted), years ahead of him to have a shot at starting, let alone playing.
