I was watching ESPN First Take this morning and I couldn't believe Herm Edwards and Skip Bayless' top 5 defensive players.

Herm:
1. DeMarcus Ware
2. Jared Allen
3. Ed Reed
4. Darrelle Revis
5. Nnamdi Asomugha

Skip:
1. Julius Peppers (I think, can't remember lol)
2. Troy Polamalu
3. Darrelle Revis
4. Clay Matthews
5. Ndamukong Suh

Both of those lists are just ridiculous. Leaving Patrick Willis off your list is a travesty.

Leaving Troy Polamalu of your list instantly makes your list invalid.

Patrick Willis is a beast, but ILB is one of the least important positions on the field. Yes, they are the 'leader' of the defense, but there are so many good ILB in the league it really doesn't make much of a difference if you have Patrick Willis or the 10th best guy. Meanwhile, the difference between D-Ware and the 10th best pass rusher, or Revis and the 10th best corner...

That's why you're seeing a lot of these ILB type of players sliding down draft boards. It's one of those positions where you "plug and play" a kid and you'll see a lot of production if he is destined to succeed in that system regardless.

It's not about the most important position on the field, it's the best player

I feel like Aso and Revis are high on this list. Basically having one side of the field not even exist is huge.

1. Nnamdi- Controls an entire half of the field. You simply cannot throw at him.
2. Revis- Great blanket corner who is right on Nnamdi's heels
3. Ware- The best pass rusher in the game. OLB in a 3-4 is nearly as important as the cornerback position. You either need them to be great pass rushers or great tacklers against the run. Ware is both. He controls his side of the field and does not miss tackles
4. Polumalu- Does this need to be explained?
5. Patrick Willis- You replace him. Not gonna happen.

I can't believe Herm had fucking Jared Allen in his list...

Honorable mentions:
Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Vince Wilfork, London Fletcher, Elvis Dumervil, James Harrison, Kevin Williams, Chad Greenway

Few names being forgotten, but I'm not going to think on it too much.

THIS

Patrick Willis is top 5 no matter what IMO at least

And you gotta have Polamalu or its invalid too. Its really tough but those 2 are needed

No particular order...Polamalu, Willis, Clay Matthews, Ed Reed, Revis
