The person requested anonymity because the Tigers have not officially announced the hire. A contract agreement or length of the deal is unknown. It is likely the Tigers and Gardenhire still are negotiating a contract.

The decision was made after Gardenhire impressed Avila in an interview at Comerica Park on Tuesday. He interviewed with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

He is an "old-school" manager that believes in fundamental baseball -- hitting behind runners, taking the extra base, playing defense properly.  Not sure how much "shifting" he'll have the Tigers do, but he should help some of the kids get a lot better.
He will look really strange in the Tigers' uniform.

Excellent signing.  Teams like the Red Sox and Nationals missed out big time.

Expected to have a good impact on the clubhouse. Doesnt take shit unlike Farrell. People have respect for him. Was really good with Manny back in the days.

I don't know if Cora is our guy, but I know Gardenhire wasn't.

i mean tbh i dont love the cora signing. between him and gabe kapler were the best options out there, but hes a players manager that wont further the team outside of morale most likely

but gardenhire is a known entity of being average/mediocre. the moment johan santana left the twins they were awful. cora at least has potential to be better, with a similar floor
