For those who don't know, Larry Nassar, yes, the guy who molested countless members of the US Gymnastics Team, was the MSU athletic physician.  His trial sparked numerous media inquiries into the MSU athletic department.

ESPN's Outside the Lines will air a report that claims their investigation revealed "a pattern of widespread denial, inaction and information suppression of such allegations".

Mark Dantonio is reported to have handled at least 16 incidents of Spartan football players accused of sexual assault or violence against women.  There's reports Dantonio punished one player specifically by "having him talk to his mother".

Tom Izzo is also accused of a suppressing.  A former undergrad student-asst coach was reportedly allowed to continue coaching after being criminally charged for punishing a female MSU student in a bar.  A few months later, the same asst coach was accused of sexually assaulting a different female student.

MSU AD Mark Hollis conveniently retired on Friday.  MSU President Lou Anna Simon resigned on Wednesday.

And it gets better... apparently NCAA President Mark Emmert was alerted to MSU Title IX issues in 2010.  This should be fun.

I think most of the administrators are going to lose their jobs over this, which they should. As for the coaches, I think Izzo's safe. The Walton incident is bad, but he wasn't a long time assistant and he was gone not too long after. The Appling/Payne situation didn't surprise me, knowing the person Keith Appling is. Unless more comes out, I don't think there's enough for him to get canned.

Dantonio is more interesting. 16 cases over that time period seems like a lot, but I wonder how that compares to other big football programs. I'm just guessing here, but I'd imagine that programs deal with this shit everywhere, not just East Lansing. Dantonio handled the sexual assault incident from last year about as well as you can, so I don't really know what to believe when it comes to him covering this stuff up.

The Nassar situation obviously shined a spotlight on the athletic department and OTL went digging and reported what they found. Would the findings be similar if they investigated elsewhere? I don't know, but it's clear that anyone who was involved in covering this up or just flat out ignored deserves to be punished, which I'm sure they will be.

I don’t think it’s fair to assume the cover-ups and squash-jobs happen everywhere. Either way, deflecting won’t help MSU at all.

Burn them all

It will be interesting to see the blow back onto Izzo and Dantonio since those are really the 2 employees most people care about
