Its a ridiculous contract though. May as well sign him to a long term deal in which it averages out to a minimum cap hit if this is the case

That's a matter of opinion PM & the same way the NHL is thinking. Not gonna hold up against the rules that are in print.

Well when they allow this to hold, the rules need a changing for the benefit of the league ;)

I'm sure the topic will come up during the next CBA negotiations.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with it? Kovalchuk, after an off-season filled with rumors of LA, KHL, even the Rangers... He re-signed with the Devils. Yes, the contract is massive. Yes, it is using a loophole in a bad system. But I don't think this is that bad, considering he STAYED with his team (albeit, only for a few months were they his team... but the point is still valid)

The Cleveland Cavaliers should take notes on how to keep marquee players...

he's not really being a diva about it

at least he didn't retire 3 times or have a one hour special letting all of north america know where he's going

How long does it take to play the field when only 2 teams are even in the running...

I know but I still wouldn't say he's worse than Favre and Lebron
