Why aren't schools closed today? Why aren't people making out with complete strangers on street corners? Why isn't your couch on fire?

People, rejoice! We're going to get a four-team college football playoff! It's the Finally Four!

In fact, right now, somebody ought to be bronzing meeting room 303 on the third floor of the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Fla. Because that's where Twelve Good Men -- the 11 FBS commissioners plus Notre Dame's AD -- made history last week. They hammered out approval for a four-team playoff.

All praise the four-fathers!

"They were aware of the historical significance," says BCS executive director Bill Hancock, a great American. "It was done very thoughtfully. They knew."

I love that the top 2 teams get to host games in the semi-finals. Could you imagine a team like USC or Ohio State going into Tiger Stadium for a chance to play for the National Championship?

This is cool. Hopefully this can evolve to a larger bracket in the future.

Definitely a step in the right direction. It seemed that a playoff wasn't going to happen, for the longest time.

Didn't see it in the article (briefly skimmed), but I wonder what happens to the two teams that lose in the first games. For example if Ohio State and Michigan played, and Ohio State lost. Then Texas and USC played, and Texas lost. They should have Ohio State and Texas play each other in another bowl game.

That's what they should do when they eventually expand the bracket. All the losing teams should play each other in the other bowl games, and just have the prevailing two play in the national championship.
